The Polish composer Frederic Chopin wrote 21 nocturnes from 1827 to 1846. Chopin's nocturnes numbered 1-18 were published during the composer's lifetime. 19 and 20 nocturnes were published after the death of the composer. 21 nocturnes until 1870 were not considered nocturnes. More often than not, the words "Chopin's nocturne" mean the most famous nocturne No. 2 from Opus 9.
There is the so-called nocturne No. 22 (in C sharp minor), published by Petersburg music publisher Butner in the late 1850s. without any reference to the manuscript. Until now, his affiliation to Chopin has not been confirmed.
