Svirini ( Skt. स्वैरिन् svairin "independent", "rebellious"). In the section Tritya-Prakriti or third-sex people , svairini ( lesbian ) is first described in the chapter of the Kama Sutra , which deals with the aggressive behavior of women ( purushaiita ) [1] . The word in Sanskrit svirini refers to an independent or liberated woman who refused to have a husband, she earns her own living, and lives either alone or married to another woman [2] [3] . Her various types of homosexual behavior and practices are described in great detail in this chapter. Lesbians are more likely to marry and raise children than gay men ( kliba ), they easily entered into both the third-sex community and ordinary society. Those who did not bear children were sometimes designated by the word nastria or "not a woman." Third-sex women could earn a living in various ways, including trading, working in government, in entertainment (as courtesans or prostitutes), and also as servants. Sometimes they lived the lives of recluses and followed ascetic vows. Lesbians and women who are either male or not attracted to men for various reasons are also mentioned in the Hindu scriptures under the terms Strides , Shandhi , etc. "Kama Sutra" also refers to homosexual marriages of third-sex people based on "strong affection and complete faith in each other. " [4] In Srimad-Bhagavatam it is said that in the world of Atala , who are ruled by Bali asuras, there are three types of women: svayrini , kamini and pumshali , where svayrini are women who marry only members of their own class, kamini are ready to marry a man of any origin, and pumshchals change their husbands one by one [5] .
