History

The company was founded by a group of Nikon employees who decided to focus on manufacturing high - quality zoom lenses . Initially, the company acted solely as an OEM manufacturer, but since the 1970s it began to produce products under its own brand.

Among the company's products are photo lenses for cameras of various manufacturers ( Canon , Nikon , etc.), filters under the HOYA brand.

In 2011, after merging with another optical manufacturer, Kenko, Tokina was discontinued. The newly formed company was named Kenko Tokina Co. Ltd.

In January 2012, the company joined the Micro 4: 3 standard [1] .

Interesting Facts

  • The design of Tokina lenses uses an original way to switch the manual and autofocus modes, called “one-touch” - the focus ring is at the same time a switch of focus modes (to yourself - manual focus, from myself - auto).
  • Tokina lenses earned high marks from renowned photographer Ken Rockwell. Rockwell puts some lenses (for example, Tokina 116 AT-X Pro) on a par with similar Nikon and Canon lenses.
