Biography

Born October 10, 1896 in the city of Windau (now Ventspils , Latvia ). Latvian [3] .

June 19, 1918 began serving in the Red Army as a military leader of the Ivano-Voznesensky Gubvoenkomat. From August 13, 1918, he decreases to the front and is appointed Assistant Commander of the 1st Workers 'and Peasants' Red Guard Cavalry Division. From 1 January 1919, serving in the 2nd Cavalry Division. Blinov in the following positions: Division Chief of Intelligence, June 1920 - Assistant Chief of Staff, from October 30, 1920 to May 2, 1921 - Chief of Division Headquarters. The division, which was part of the 1st Cavalry Army , participated in the battles in the Don and the North Caucasus against the Don Army (corps of Gen. Konovalov), the elimination of gangs, the pursuit of Denikin troops in the area of Boguchar , Millerovo , Ust-Medveditskaya (Dec. 1919 - Jan. 1920), in the fighting on the Manych River, near the villages of Platovskaya, Egorlykskaya, Mechetinskaya (Jan. – Feb. 1920), the liberation of the villages of Tikhoretskaya, Malorossiyskaya and Kavkazskaya (March 1920), in battles against the Kuban Army on the Kuban and Laba rivers ( Apr. 1920), Makhno gangs in the Orekhov region, Gulyaypole , Pokrovskoye, airborne groups s of General Ya. A. Slashchyov in the region of Melitopol (May – June 1920) [3] .

After the war in February 1923, Upman was appointed Chief of Staff of the 6th Separate Cavalry Brigade, and since February 24 of the same year, Chief of Operations Division Headquarters of the 7th Cavalry Division . In July 1924, became the chief of staff of the 41st cavalry regiment of the same division. In August 1925, he entered the Military Academy named after MV Frunze , in September 1928, after graduating from the Academy, he was appointed Chief of the Operations Division of the 3rd Cavalry Division Headquarters, and since 1930 - id. chief of staff of the same division. On May 4, 1931 he was appointed Chief of Staff of the 9th Cavalry Division . From May 1933 to January 1935, he was a student in the operational department of the Military Academy named after M. Frunze. From January 31, 1935 - Chief of Staff of the 1st Cavalry Division . From November 11, 1936 to July 31, 1938, he attended the Higher Academy of the General Staff . July 31, 1938, was relieved of his post and transferred to the reserve of the Red Army under art. 43 paragraph. "B" "Regulations on the service com. beginning composition of the Red Army " [3] .

On September 29, 1938, Upman again served in the Red Army as a senior lecturer in tactics at the Military Academy named after MV Frunze. From September 20, 1940 - Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head of the Department of Operational Art of the GSH Higher Special School School. Member of the CPSU (b) since 1940. From February 2, 1943 - Senior Lecturer at the Department of Tactics and Operational Art of the Military Academy named after MV Frunze [3] .

From March 4, 1943 in the army and.d. chief of the operational department of the headquarters of the 3rd Guards Tank Army commanded by P. S. Rybalko . July 11, 1943 he was appointed chief of the operational department of the headquarters of the same army. From April 17 (according to other data - from May 16) to June 9, 1945 - id. Chief of Staff of the 4th Tank Army (from March 17, 1945 to the 4th Guards Tank Army ) under the command of D. D. Lelyushenko [3] .

During the war, General Upman was personally mentioned fourteen times in thanksgiving in the orders of the Supreme Commander [4]

June 9, 1945 he was appointed chief of staff of the 4th Guards Tank Army of the Central GV [3] .

From April 17, 1946 - Head of the Chair of the Technical and Military Medical Academy of the Higher Military Academy. Voroshilov . May 29, 1948 he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff with the assignment of all rights [3] .

August 11, 1948 continued to serve in the Higher Military Academy. Voroshilov at the post of deputy head of the department of the TBiMV, from September 28, 1956 senior lecturer of the department of strategy and operational art. He died on September 7, 1968, and was buried in Moscow at the Novodevichy Cemetery (columbarium, section 129) [5] .
