Biography
Washington Silva was born on February 25, 1976 in the city Diadem of São Paulo , Brazil . He trained in São Paulo at the local boxing club Corinthians.
He achieved his first serious success at the adult international level in the 2002 season, when he joined the Brazilian national team and won the home games in Belem in South America - in the standings of the light heavyweight category he defeated all opponents in the tournament bracket, including in the finals over the Venezuelan Edgar Munoz .
In 2003, he visited the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo , where he was stopped at the quarter-finals by the local Dominican boxer Argenis Nunez .
At the American Olympic qualification in Rio de Janeiro, he defeated all his rivals in the light heavyweight category and thanks to this he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens . Nevertheless, he had only one single battle at the Games - already in the 1/16 finals with a score of 22:27 he was defeated by Azerbaijani Ali Ismailov .
After the Athens Olympics, Silva remained in the main boxing team of Brazil and continued to take part in major international tournaments. So, in 2007, he performed at the home Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro and took part in the World Cup in Chicago , where in the 1/16 finals he prematurely lost to the Russian Artur Beterbiev .
Being among the leaders of the Brazilian national team, Washington Silva qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing - in the 81 kg category this time he managed to beat two rivals, while in the quarterfinals he lost 0-8 to the Irish Kenneth Egan [1] .
Subsequently, he entered the service in the Navy of Brazil , in 2011 he played at the home World War Games in Rio de Janeiro [2] .
