Rotermundt, Julius Ludwig

Julius Ludwig was co-owner of the enterprise “A. V. Rotermund ", since 1828, successfully engaged in the trade of sugar and tobacco in Russia. He was also the owner of the St. Petersburg sitch printing factory Lutcha. In June 1870, along with Burchard Fixen, Evgeny Zhiber, Karl Schwaben, Grigori Eliseev and Alexander Eliseev (trading company “Brothers Eliseev”) and Eduard Tyurstig (trading house Asmus Siemens and Co), the co-founder insurance company Lloyd ”, which was engaged in insuring transport risks, as well as insuring steamers , sailing ships , other water vehicles and railway wagons . The fixed capital at the time of establishment was one million rubles. Soon after its establishment, Russian Lloyd became one of the leading insurance companies in the Russian market ^[1] .

In 1872 he married Ida Amalie Lange ( Ida Amalie Lange ) from Saxony .

In 1874 he settled in Dresden . In the suburb of Dresden he acquired the old estate of the historic Gostiny Dvor of the Green Meadow and built a luxurious villa ^[2] , rebuilding old dilapidated buildings and equipping a garden with many exotic plants. Soon Rotermundt gained a reputation as a local benefactor. The territory of the villa subsequently served as the basis for the city square, Rotermundtpark, opened in 1914 on the initiative of the Rotermundt family ^[3] . During the life of Julius Ludwig in Grun, Rotermundtshtrasse was named in his honor ^[4] .

The relative of Julius Ludwig was Adolf Rotermundt (1846―1930), who also managed the affairs of the joint-stock company of the sugar factory in St. Petersburg and then moved to Dresden .
