Biography
Born on April 7, 1888 in the village of Basino, Tolvuiskoy volost, in a peasant family.
At the age of 12 he was sent to study crafts in St. Petersburg, to the workshop for teaching icon painting, attended the drawing classes of the Society for the Promotion of Arts. In 1907 he was enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts as a volunteer, and received a scholarship from the Petrozavodsk Uyezd Zemstvo Council.
He studied under the leadership of Vladimir Egorovich Makovsky, defended the painting for the competition program βMorning in Veniceβ and in 1915
After graduating from the Academy of Arts, he taught painting at the school of the Society for the Promotion of Arts, was engaged in decorative and religious painting.
He participated in the expedition of the linguist N. Ya. Marr in the Caucasus, in 1916 he served as an artist - specialist in the Semenovsky regiment in Petrograd.
He returned in 1918 to the Olonets province, was elected secretary of the Tolvuy volost committee of the poor, worked as a drawing teacher in volost schools. In 1919-1921, he taught at the art school of Petrozavodsk , painted the Palace of Labor in Petrozavodsk.
He died in Petrozavodsk in 1933, was buried at the Neglinsky cemetery [2] In 1988, on the 100th anniversary of the artistβs birthday, his first personal exhibition was held in the Museum of Fine Arts of Karelia.
