The Council of New Guinea ( Dutch: Nieuw-Guinea Raad ) is a unicameral representative body formed in the Dutch colony of New Guinea in 1961. The Council was opened on April 5, 1961 with 28 members, 16 of which were elected in the elections held in January 1961 [1] .

Activities
The Council was invited to submit its wishes on the self-determination of the colony during the year [2] . During the emergency session, the council prepared a national manifesto and symbols, including the morning star flag , for a new national identity known as “ Western Papua ” [3] .
From October 1, 1962 to May 1, 1963, the Council of New Guinea transfers all power from the Netherlands to the United Nations to oversee the preparations for the transfer of the island of Indonesia [4] .

Council Building
The Council building was built in Holland from 1960 to 1961 and was used until the Council was abolished in 1962.
