He also mastered kickboxing and judo . He studied at a law school for some time, but then dropped out of school, deciding to become a professional MMA fighter [1] .
Beginning of a professional career
He made his debut in mixed martial arts at the professional level in May 2006, having beaten his rival by technical knockout in the second round. With varying success, he fought in small Brazilian promotions, met in battle with such well-known compatriots as Renan Baran and Genair da Silva , but lost to both. Marked a victory over a fairly strong fighter Felipi Arantis . He won the Max Fight featherweight champion title [2] [3] .
Bezerra took the nickname "Jason" as a reference to the maniac Jason Voorhees , a character in the horror films " Friday the 13th " - traditionally goes to battle in the same hockey mask.
The Ultimate Fighter
Having ten victories and only three defeats in the track record, in 2012 Bezerra became one of the participants in the first Brazilian season of the popular fighting reality show The Ultimate Fighter . He won against his opponent at the qualifying stage and under the fifth overall number was selected to the team of Wanderlei Silva .
At the stages of the quarter finals and semifinals, Anistaviu Medeirus and Hugo Vianu successfully passed. In the decisive final match, he met Godofred Castro and defeated him by unanimous decision in three rounds, thus becoming the winner of the featherweight show [4] .
Ultimate Fighting Championship
Thanks to a successful performance on the TUF show, Bezerra was able to sign a long-term contract with the world's largest fighting organization Ultimate Fighting Championship . In the same 2012, he entered the octagon against Sam Sicily and defeated him by technical knockout in the second round, earning a bonus for the best knockout of the evening [5] .
In 2013, he defeated Mike Wilkinson by a technical change, but was then knocked out by Jeremy Stevens [6] .
In 2014, by technical knockout he defeated Stephen Siler and a separate judicial decision was defeated by Robbie Peralta [7] .
In May 2015, in a duel with Damon Jackson , using the “ triangle ” in the first round he forced the opponent to surrender and even received an award for the best performance of the evening, but later there was information about the failed doping test - in his sample, traces of the prohibited hydrochlorothiazide diuretic were found. The fighter pleaded guilty and received a suspension of nine months, in addition, the UFC management deprived him of a cash bonus of $ 50 thousand, relying on the best performance of the evening [8] [9] .
At the end of the period of ineligibility, Bezerra returned to MMA, but had no previous success - in 2016 and 2017, points were defeated by Dennis Bermudez and Jeremy Kennedy respectively. On these defeats, his collaboration with the UFC came to an end [10] [11] .
