North America ( USA , California) [1] .

Description

Small bees (females 8–9 mm long, males 6–7 mm long). Nocturnal hymenoptera with large eyes and ocelli. Wings with two submarginal cells. The marginal cell is short, approximately equal to pterostigma . The tongue is rather short, pointed at the apex. Labial palps short. Females at the end of the abdomen have a pygidal field ( pygidium , or tergite of the 7th abdominal segment). They live in xerophilic biotopes, nest in the soil. Included in the subgenus Xerophasma . The species was first described in 1954 by the American hymenopterologist Philip Hunter Timberlake ( PH Timberlake , 1883-1981) [1] .
