Abduction

Adi Sharon and his father, Israeli businessman Joseph Sharon, were abducted on August 23, 1999 in Moscow on Kutuzovsky Prospekt . The next day, the father was released, demanding a ransom for his son in the amount of $ 8 million.

Sharon turned for help to the Moscow RUBOP . Criminals reduced the amount of the ransom to $ 2 million. On January 21, 2000, Sharon received a cut off little finger of his son. During the negotiations, the repurchase amount was again reduced to 200 thousand dollars. On May 5, Sharon received his second cut off little finger from his son with a warning that the next time he would get his head.

Adi Sharon was released on June 1, 2000 in Penza . He spent about a year in the basement, where his health deteriorated sharply. On the same day 13 criminals were detained, led by the Vitaev brothers, the organizers of the abduction. A police officer Andrei Aleshin took part in solving the crime [1] .

The kidnappers were sentenced to long prison terms. Ruslan, Khizir and Shamkhan Vitaevs were sentenced to various terms of deprivation (from eight to ten years). Goryachev received 10 years, Salyaev - 9 years in prison [2] [3] .

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin and stated that "decisive actions by Russian special services have demonstrated to terrorist and bandit groups of various kinds that a serious and responsible government does not capitulate to the threat of violence" [4] .
