Biography

He was born on the estate of Count Sheremetev , where his grandfather was the manager, in the family of Abram Isaakovich Rabbit and Polina Markovna Varshavskaya.

He graduated from the Law Faculty of St. Petersburg University in 1912 (according to other sources in 1911) with a diploma of the 1st degree. In 1912 he was admitted to the number of assistants to the sworn attorneys of the St. Petersburg District Court of Justice. He was recorded as an assistant to the sworn attorney M.G. Kazarinov , a well-known and talented lawyer . [1] The beginning of World War I was found in Italy , where he traveled with the family of A. N. Benois . At the beginning of 1915 he joined the Technical Committee of the Main Commandant Directorate of the Ministry of War as a legal adviser , later renamed the Technical Organization for the needs of the army and transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture , where he worked until 1920.

In 1920-1921, he headed the library sector of the political department of the Petrograd Military District , in 1924-1927 he headed the trade department of the urban public education sector of Leningrad, then the publishing house “ Academia ” until 1929. [2] [3] He was a representative of the publishing house Federation in Leningrad (1929- 1930), headed publishing houses of Leningrad academic theaters (1933-1943), taught editorial and publishing in higher and secondary specialized educational institutions. At the same time he worked at the Scientific Research Institute of Book Studies (1926-1933). He was engaged in the development of general issues of book science, the study of the psychology of readers.

In 1943-1949 he returned to jurisprudence and joined the college of lawyers , but he did not leave the book business until the end of his life. In 1952 he retired and, in addition to making speeches and reports on various sections of book science, he worked on a monograph on the art of books. In the 1950s he drew up the course programs "Printing and Printing in the USSR", "Organization and Economics of Book Publishing in the USSR". In 1955 he made a lecture on “The Art of the Soviet Book”. He was a member of the book and graphic section of the Leningrad House of Scientists , in 1957 he read a report here "The joy and afflictions of a book lover."

  • His Ph.D. work “Ideas of Legislative Creativity and the Laws of Law Development in the Newest Jurisprudence” was published by St. Petersburg University in 1913 as a separate brochure .
