Poppo von Babenberg (circa 986–16 June 1047 ) was a church figure of the 11th century, the Archbishop of Trier ( 1016–1047 ).

Biography
The representative of the first princely dynasty in Austria is Babenberg . The son of Margrave of Austria Leopold I and Richards , allegedly the daughter of Ernst IV (from the Ernst family), Count Zualafeldgau . His brothers were Henry I (d. 1018), Margrave of Austria (from 994), Ernst I (d. 1015), Duke of Swabia (from 1012), Adalbert (d. 1055), Margrave of Austria (from 1018) and Liutpold I ( Archbishop of Mainz) (d. 1059).
Educated in Regensburg .
In 1007, the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, Henry II, appointed him as the first abbot of his new cathedral of St. Peter and St. George in Bamberg , one of the seven imperial cathedrals of Germany .
When in 1015 Archbishop Meguingod of Trier died, Henry II chose Poppo in his place. He was consecrated by Ercanbald , Archbishop of Mainz , and in 1016 the appointment was confirmed by Pope Benedict VIII .
In 1018, the emperor handed over to his administration and control over the observance of the established standards the royal mint in Koblenz .
In 1028-1030, Poppo made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land with the monk Simeon of Trier . After the death of Simeon in 1035 , after a short time, Archbishop Poppo made a presentation to Rome about the canonization of the hermit. This was done by Pope Benedict IX . This canonization was the second in the history of the papacy .
From 1037 until his death in 1047, Poppo was busy with the expansion and decoration of the Cathedral of Trier . During the inspection of construction on June 16, 1047, Archbishop Poppo died.
He was buried in the church of St. Simeon in Trier, which he founded. In 1803, Poppon was reburied by St. Gervasius. During World War II, his grave was completely destroyed.
