John Miller Gray ( 1850 , Edinburgh - 1894 , Edinburgh ) - Scottish art critic, the first curator of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery .
Biography
Gray was born and lived his whole life in Edinburgh . In 1866 he joined the bank as an assistant clerk, but soon left this profession. He studied art and literature. John Miller Gray became a well-known art critic in Edinburgh. In 1884, Gray became the first curator of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. Actively engaged in the systematization of exhibits gallery. He published several works on figures of Scottish culture. Before his death in 1894, Gray bequeathed his fortune to the gallery.
