Name problems
In 2002, the company received a lawsuit from Microsoft because of the “consonance to the point of confusion” of its Windows and “ Windows ” trademarks. However, the court pointed out that Microsoft itself used the common word “windows” ( English “windows” ) to describe a graphical user interface ( GUI ) that existed even before the release of Microsoft Windows and, moreover, multi-windows were already used by such corporations like Xerox and Apple Computer (see also X Window System ). The hearing was postponed until February 2004 . Then, Microsoft offered to close the deal with the world, paying compensation of about $ 20 million under the terms of the agreement, but Lindows, Inc. transferred the rights to the Microsoft trademark and changed its name. At the same time (in the transition period to this agreement), the name “with bills” Lin --- s (pronounced Lindash, Lindash ) appeared. The new company name is Linspire, Inc.
Xandros purchase
Former Linspire employee blog posts, June 30, 2008, shareholders of Linspire, Inc. received reports that, by a unanimous decision of the shareholders, the assets of Linspire are transferred to the ownership of Xandros, Inc. which created Linspire Acquisition Corporation for this purpose, and Linspire will be renamed Digital Cornerstone [5] [6] [7] .
A month later, Xandros, Inc. announced that the next version of Freespire will again be based on Debian Linux, and not on Ubuntu [8] [9] , to use the same base for all Xandros operating systems. Development of a separate commercial Linspire will be discontinued [10] .
