History
European championships in individual track disciplines began a long time ago.
Since 1896, men's championship races for the leader . Later, Madison (from 1949) and Omnium (from 1959) Championships appeared, which later will be included in the main championship. [1] [2]
Since 2001, begins to pass the European Championships, but only among the Anders and juniors . The age of athletes did not exceed 23 years. They provided a useful experience for young riders, and the winners automatically received the right to participate in the World Championships , where there was no age limit, the best athletes of the world competed [3] .
In 2010, the UEC revised the European track calendar, as well as the European riders' selection system for the Olympic Games . As a result, it was decided to hold the European Championship among elite athletes.
The first championship took place in early November 2010. He included 10 disciplines included in the 2012 Olympics plus M Madison program because of his popularity. [4] Over time, the championship program has expanded.
Championship 2014 was held in the overseas department of France , located in the Caribbean .
Starting in 2018, after UEC has agreed with the governing bodies of six other major European sports federations, the European Championship will be held every four years as part of a new European Championship in summer sports . At the same time, track competitions in the European Games of 2019 will not be considered as another championship.
The championship among the underdogs and juniors is preserved and held as a separate event. For riders over 35 years old, the European Masters Track Championships are held.
Championship T-shirt
In addition to the gold medal, every world champion is awarded with a special T-shirt - blue with gold European stars, in which he competes all next year in all races of the same discipline in which he won.
