Call to Putin

“Call Putin” is a slang term used by some police officers in Russia , which means torture with electric shocks to earlobes [1] [2] [3] [4] . According to Amnesty International , torture by electric current is very common in Russia [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] .

This method was described in publications describing the case of Alexei Mikheev , who was falsely accused of murder in 2006, while his alleged victim was alive and well. . Having survived the "phone call", Mikheev jumped out of the window of the third floor in order to escape from his tormentor. The fall led to a spinal cord injury, which caused Alexey to become paralyzed [10] . His case was transferred to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg (France) and became famous as “the first serious victory in the event of torture”, filed in court against the Russian government [3] [11] .
