Zorakt or Monte Zorakt ( Italian: Monte Soratte , lat. Mons Soracte ) is a mountain in Etruria , about 45 km north of Rome , the highest point of a hill (691 m), which stretches along the right bank of the Tiber in a northeast direction.

On the snowy peak of Sorakt in ancient times was the temple of the Etruscan god Soranus , then - Apollo , to whom the whole mountain was dedicated, at the foot - the sanctuary of Feronius .
On the slopes of the mountain were wonderful warm springs. On the site of the ancient grove of Feronia is located the commune of Sant Oreste , on the site of the Temple of Apollo - the ancient church of San Silvestro.
History
In their works, Horace (“vides ut alta stet nive candidum Soracte?” Carm. I. 9), and Virgil were glorified . Goethe also mentions Zoraktu in his Italian Journey diary of a trip to Italy in 1786-1788.
According to legend, the Holy Orestes, after whom the city is named, was tortured near Monte Zorakt.
During the Second World War, after air raids in September 1943, Field Marshal Albert Kesselring moved his headquarters to the bunkers of Monte Zorakt.
