Tauris ( lat. Taurini ) - an ancient Celtic tribe [1] , who lived in Tsizalpii Gaul - at the base of the Alps and in the headwaters of the Po [2] .
The references to tavrinov in the sources are few: Tit Livy (v. 34) and Strabo (iv. P. 209) describe their location, Pliny the Elder reports that they were engaged in farming and gathering pine nuts .
In 218 BC. e. The Tavrins were the first to be attacked by Hannibal , who crossed the Alps and the Insubrís opponents who used them. Their main city, Taurasia , was captured after a three-day siege [3]
In 27 BC e. a Roman colony was founded on their territory, first called Castra Taurinorum , later Julia Augusta Taurinorum , which became modern Turin .
