Holocaust

On October 6, 2017, at about 3.30 a.m., the Mercedes passenger bus, which contained 58 citizens of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, suddenly died out at the moment of crossing the regulated railway crossing at Pokrov station. Some passengers got off the bus and unsuccessfully tried to push him out of the railway tracks. The driver, contrary to his duties, did not evacuate all passengers, many of whom were asleep at the time of the accident. After some time, the move closed. The train driver number 60 St. Petersburg - Nizhny Novgorod applied emergency braking. At 3.39 Moscow time, a collision occurred. The blow was so strong that the bus was torn in half. The cabin was thrown thirty meters from the scene of the collision, the train dragged the cabin behind him to a distance of about 200 meters.

Consequences

Of the 359 passengers on the train, no one was hurt. The locomotive team, applying emergency braking, left the cab and also did not suffer. Of the passengers at the time of the collision, 16 people died, 4 more received serious injuries, later one of them (a two-year-old child) died in the hospital. Investigators of the Moscow Interregional Investigation Directorate for Transport of the IC of the Russian Federation opened a criminal investigation into the accident. A criminal case was also opened regarding illegal migration. The bus driver and the organizer of the trip were detained by law enforcement agencies. [1] [2] Bus passengers were sent to their homeland by special flight. The car accident had a wide public outcry. Condolences to the relatives of the victims and to the President of Russia were expressed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel. [3] The incident brought to life the legislative initiative of the Government of the Russian Federation on toughening the toughening of punishment for violation of the rules of passage through railway crossings. On June 20, 2018, the State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted in the first reading the corresponding government bill. [four]

Versions

Two versions of the disaster have spread in the media:

1. The bus driver grossly violated the rules of the road and drove to the red traffic light, taking advantage of the interval between the sound and light signals and the operation of the crossing barrier device. After the bus had stalled on the railroad tracks, the crossing duty officer immediately turned on the barrage signal for the locomotive crews. Emergency braking, applied by the driver at a distance of 746 meters from the crossing, could not prevent the collision of the train with the bus. [5] [6] [7]

2. The bus driver drove on the road with a non-prohibitive signal when the crossing was open, after which the bus stalled. For some time (according to various sources, from 5 to 10 minutes), passengers tried to push the bus, then the crossing closed, soon after which a collision occurred. The relocation officer appeared on the veranda of the crossing post only at the time of the disaster. According to eyewitnesses, she was in a state of shock. The barrage signal for locomotive crews was given, but it happened too late. The train driver began emergency braking about 300 meters from the crossing. [8] [9] [10]
