DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited is one of the largest licensed banks in Hong Kong (one of the ten largest financial institutions in the city in terms of assets), wholly owned by the Singapore DBS Bank (The Development Bank of Singapore). History
In 1992, the Singapore DBS Bank acquired 10% of shares in the Hong Kong Wing Lung Bank , but further expansion did not continue. [7]
Fully DBS Bank began its operations in Hong Kong in 1999 when it acquired the local Kwong On Bank, founded in 1935, from the influential Leung family and the Japanese Fuji Bank . In 2001, DBS Bank acquired from the Malaysian Guoco Group its Hong Kong assets - the large Dao Heng Bank and its subsidiary Overseas Trust Bank [1] [8] [9] .
Dao Heng Bank was founded in Hong Kong in 1921. In 1982, the Dao Heng Bank was bought by the Guoco Group, in 1989, he bought a small Hang Lung Bank from the government, and in 1993, the Overseas Trust Bank (founded in 1955).
In 2003, the previously acquired DBS Kwong On Bank, Dao Heng Bank and Overseas Trust Bank were merged into a single DBS Bank (Hong Kong) [10] .
