Functions

Membrane protein FZD9 belongs to the Frizzled family of G-protein-coupled superfamilies . Frizzled proteins are receptors for Wnt signaling proteins and are associated with the canonical beta-catenin signaling pathway. FZD9 is a receptor for WNT2 and is associated with the canonical beta-catenin signaling pathway, which leads to activation of the Dishevelled protein group (Dsh), inhibition of GSK-3 kinase, accumulation of beta-catenin in the nucleus and activation of Wnt-dependent genes. It plays a role in the formation of the neuromuscular synapse by negatively regulating the clustering of acetylcholine receptors mediated by the canonical beta-catenin signaling pathway. Controls bone formation mediated by ISG15 . participates in the positive regulation of bone regeneration.

Tissue specificity

Expressed mainly in the brain, testes, eyes, skeletal muscles and kidneys. [3]

Pathology

With a gene deletion, heterozygotes develop Williams syndrome .
