Pose is an American drama television series created by Ryan Murphy , Brad Falchak and Stephen Canels. The show premiered on June 3, 2018 on the FX channel. The main roles in the series are performed by Emgey Rodriguez, Dominic Jackson, Billy Porter , India Moore , Ryan Jamal Swain, Charlane Woodard , Haley Sugar, Angelica Ross, Angel Bijmark Curiel, Dillon Burnside and Sandra Burnhard.

Story

Unfolding in America in the late 80s and early 90s, the show shows several segments of life in New York - point culture, downtown life, as well as the rise of the Trump era.

Basic cast

  • Mother Rodriguez - Blanca Rodriguez Evangelista (formerly Abundance), a trans woman with HIV and a former member of the House of Abundance. Founder and mother of the House of Evangelists.
  • Dominic Jackson - Electra Wintour (formerly Abundance, Evangelist and Ferocity), former mother of House of Abundance and founder of House Wintour.
  • Billy Porter - Prey Tell, New York's emc points, fashion designer and community mentor.
  • India Moore is the Angel of the Evangelist (formerly Abundance), a trans woman and sex worker who joins the Evangelists House.
  • Ryan Jamal Swain is Damon Richards-Evangelist, a homeless and talented dancer who becomes the first member of the Evangelists House.

Production

Development

On March 16, 2017, it was announced that FX had ordered a pilot episode scripted by Ryan Murphy , Brad Falchak and Stephen Canels, who will also be involved in producing the series with Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson and Sherry Marsh [2] . Leyomi Maldonado and Daniel Polanco were announced as show choreographers. [3] In October 2017, Janet Mock and Our Lady J [4] joined the team of scriptwriters and producers.

On December 27, 2017, it was announced that FX ordered the production of the first season of eight episodes [5] . On July 12, 2018, it was announced that the series was extended for a second season [6] . On June 17, 2019, it was announced that the series was extended for a third season [7] .

Casting

The casting of the series began in March 2017. In October 2017, it was announced that transgender actresses Emjey Rodriguez, India Moore, Dominic Jackson, Haley Sugar and Angelica Ross, as well as cisgender actors Ryan Jamal Swain, Billy Porter and Dillon Burnside joined the main cast of the show, thereby setting a record for the cast the number of transgender actors in the television series [3] [8] . It was expected that the show will involve more than 50 transgender characters [9] . A day later, Evan Peters , Kate Mara , James Van Der Beek and Tatyana Maslani also joined the main caste [10] .

On December 27, 2017, it was announced that Maslani had left the series, as her role was rewritten for a 50-year-old African-American woman. The role was taken by Charlane Woodard [11] . On September 19, 2018, it was announced that Sandra Bernhard joined the permanent cast with the role of nurse Judy [12] . On March 24, 2019, it was announced that Patty Lupont would appear in the second season of the show with a guest role. [13]

Filming process

Filming of the pilot episode began in October 2017 in New York [2] . Production of subsequent episodes of the first season was expected to begin in February 2018 [5] . Murphy directed the first two episodes of the show [9] , and Mock directed the sixth, thereby becoming the first transgender colored woman to film an episode of any television show [14] .

On April 12, 2018, FX released the first teaser of the series, also announcing the show's release date is June 3, 2018 [15] . On May 3, 2018, FX released the first trailer for the series [16] .

Acceptance

Criticism Reviews

The first season of the series was greeted with positive reviews from critics. On the Rotten Tomatoes online aggregator , it has 96% freshness and a rating of 8.03 out of 10 based on 76 reviews [17] . Metacritic gave the season 75 points out of 100 possible based on 27 reviews, which corresponds to the status of “generally positive reviews” [18] .

The second season of the show was also greeted with positive reviews. On the Rotten Tomatoes online aggregator, the season has 96% freshness and a rating of 8.12 out of 10 based on 27 reviews [19] , while Metacritic gave it 79 out of 100 possible based on 13 reviews, which corresponds to the status of “generally positive reviews ” [20] .
