Denis John Carnill ( born Denys John Carnill ; March 11, 1926 , London , UK - March 30, 2016 , Worthing , West Sussex , UK ) - British field hockey athlete, bronze medalist of the Helsinki Olympic Games (1952).

Sports career
He started playing field hockey at the Hitchin Grammar School, then played for Worcester College and Oxford Trinity College, in which he won university competitions twice as a captain (1949, 1950) and once more as a player (1951). He was also a cricket professional, playing for the teams of Wellin Garden City and Hertfordshire in the Minor Counties Championship (1949-1954).
In the postwar years, represented in the field hockey club Cheltenham Hockey Club, which at that time was one of the strongest in England. Over his ten-year career, he has won 45 tournaments. He played for the national team in 27 matches, including the three summer Olympics: in Helsinki (1952), in Melbourne (1956) and in Rome (1960) - in the last two he was captain of the team. At the Summer Olympics in Helsinki, he won the bronze medal.
On the eve of the Summer Games in Tokyo (1964), he was appointed manager of the British team, but resigned eight months before the start of the competition.
At the end of his career since 1951, he worked for 33 years as a teacher at the Dean Close public school in Cheltenham, and taught history, economics, and hockey. Also in the 1950s, he participated in the BBC television program, teaching children a healthy lifestyle and sports.
