Selection of venue

In March 2013, Australia, Belgium, England and New Zealand were selected as candidates for the event. In the end, Belgium did not fulfill the requirement to submit the application documentation on time. In addition, a month before the election, Australia withdrew its application for technical and financial reasons. England was declared the host on November 7, 2013 during a special ceremony in Lausanne, Switzerland .

Qualification

In connection with the increase to 16 participating teams, the new qualification process was announced in July 2015 by the International Ice Hockey Federation. Each of the continental champions from the five confederations and the host country received the vouchers automatically. They were joined by ten national teams, who took the highest places in the semifinals of the World Field Hockey League (women) 2016-17.

In brackets after the team listed team rating.
