Synopsis

Following the floods and landslides of the soil that occurred from the end of June until mid-July 2018, intense heat spread throughout Japan. In the prefectures most affected by floods and landslides, Hiroshima , Okayama and Ehime , 145 people were hospitalized with symptoms of sunstroke when the temperature exceeded 35 ° C [1] . On July 15, 200 of 927 state monitoring stations recorded record temperatures exceeding 35 ° C [2] . On July 23, a temperature of 41.1 ° C was recorded in Kumagai , 65 km northwest of Tokyo . This temperature has become a historically record for all of Japan [3] . On the same day, in many cities a temperature of about 40 ° C was recorded. In Kyoto, the temperature remained above 38 ° C for 7 days for the first time since the start of fixations in the 19th century [4] .

On July 24, the Japan Meteorological Administration (MUJ) called the heat a natural disaster and noted that "unprecedented heat levels" were observed in many regions.

Also, the Japanese heat was in Primorye.

Consequences

At least 80 people died, and at least 22,000 people needed hospitalization after a sunstroke [5] [6] . Fatalities were reported in 28 of 47 prefectures [7] . Between July 15 and 22, 65 people died from the heat, including 11 people on July 21 and 13 people on July 23 [8] . The number of victims caused by heat during the weekly period has become the highest since the start of detailed registration in 2008. On July 17, the Tokyo Fire Service sent fire brigades 2900 times to call sites - this is the highest figure since the founding of the service in 1936 [9] . Just four days later, on July 21, this record was broken when fire brigades drove 3,125 times [10] .

The Ministry of Education issued a warning in schools to implement measures to prevent sunstroke ; this happened after the death of a six-year-old boy who participated in an outdoor school event [11] . Less than half of the schools in the state are equipped with air conditioning systems , which is why government officials discussed extending school holidays for safety reasons. The state also considered covering the costs of installing air conditioning systems in schools in Japan. Kyushu Electricity Company offered 10 percent discounts on electricity in August and September to customers over the age of 75 to popularize air conditioning [12] .
