Kefken ( tour. Kefken Adası ), earlier - Dafnusia ( ancient-Greek. Δαφνουσία ) is an island near the Turkish coast of the Black Sea , in the Kandyr il area of Kocaeli .
Originally a member of the Athenian Maritime Union (431 BC) . In ancient times, he also bore the names Apollonia and Tinias (the latter is etymologized either from the name of tuna fish or from the ancient people of tins ( vifin ).
Later it belonged to the Roman Empire, then to the Eastern Roman Empire ( Byzantium ) from 395 to 1204. There was a bishopric on the island; the martyr Bishop Savva (IX century) is known. In 1204, the island became part of the Latin Empire and in 1262 again became part of the Greek possessions. In the 1310s it was captured by the Ottoman commander Akchakoja-bey, but in 1328 it was returned by the Byzantines. For some time was in the possession of the Genoese . But after the fall of Constantinople in 1453, the island became subordinate to the Ottoman Empire. In 1918-1921 he was under the English occupation.
The population at the 2012 census is 1,364 people.
