Eduard Aleksandrovich Yakubaytis ( March 26, 1924 , Kursk - July 14, 2006 , Riga ) - Soviet and Latvian scientist in the field of information technology, one of the founders of the theory of asynchronous finite automata, the founder of the Riga scientific school of technical cybernetics.

Biography
Born in Kursk in the family of the Latvian red arrow . Soon after his birth, the family moved to Ukraine, then to Rostov-on-Don.
In 1942 he was called up to the Red Army , in 1943 he was seriously injured and demobilized for disability, he walked with crutches for several years (his leg did not unbend, the nerve was broken). He cured himself, daily tying a brick to his leg for several hours (Ogonek magazine, 1965, No. 25).
Entered the Novocherkassk Industrial Institute, then transferred to the Rostov-on-Don Institute of Railway Engineers and graduated with honors in 1949.
Since 1949, Junior Researcher at the Institute of Energy and Electrical Engineering of the Latvian SSR Academy of Sciences . In 1950 he entered the postgraduate school of the Moscow Research Institute of Power Engineering. G. M. Krzhizhanovsky, in 1953 he defended his thesis, after which he worked as a researcher and head of the laboratory.
In 1959 he defended his doctoral thesis.
From 1960 to 1992, Director and Head of the Laboratory of Logic Systems at the Institute of Electronics and Computer Engineering, from 1992 to 1994 - Leading Researcher.
02/28/1963 elected Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Latvian SSR with a degree in technical cybernetics (corresponding member since 13.06.1960). From 1963 to 1967, Academician-Secretary of the Department of Physical and Technical Sciences, from 1967 to 1992 - Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences.
Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Latvian SSR of the 9th convocation .
Laureate of the State Prize of the Latvian SSR in 1958 for direct leadership and participation in solving specific problems of improving the energy supply of vehicles and the creation and implementation of an automated power supply system for passenger cars.
Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Latvia (1974), Laureate of the USSR State Prize (1978 - for developing principles for constructing automated scanning optical microscopy systems, creating and implementing on their basis a set of instruments for analyzing micro-objects in scientific research and industry) and 1983).
Author and co-author of more than 150 scientific publications, 17 monographs and 69 brochures, 23 inventions. His books have been published in France, in the USA, China and most of Eastern Europe.
He died in Riga on July 14, 2006, and was buried at the 1st Forest Cemetery .
