Biography
Born July 31, 1922 in the village of Peski, Peskovsky district, Voronezh region . Since 1924, the family lived in Moscow, where his father, a participant in the Civil War, brigade commissar Leonid Petrovich Iofin (1898-1937), subsequently the head of the political department of the 1st Air Defense Division, was sent to continue military service. My father was repressed and shot in 1937.
In 1940 he entered the Moscow Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals and Gold named after M. I. Kalinin . Since the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, from the institute committee of the Komsomol, it performed special tasks: it monitored the blackout in the streets, and the machine tool Stankokonstruktsiya worked on the manufacture of shells.
In October 1941, from the first year of the institute, as part of the Moscow militia, he went to the front. He served as a sapper in the 3rd Moscow Communist Division (from January 1942 reorganized into the 130th Infantry Division ).
From October 1941 to January 1942 he participated in the defense of Moscow, from January 20 to March 21, 1942 - in the Demyan operation.
He participated in the installation of minefields and barriers along the Leningradskoye and Dmitrovskoye Shosse ... in battles for the villages of Pavlovo, Sidorovo, Ostravnya ... during the battle for the village of Lunevo, he completed the mission under mortar and machine-gun fire of the enemy.

March 21, 1942 near the village of Lunevo came under mortar fire, was seriously wounded in the leg. Having gone through five hospitals in seven months, he was demobilized by disability.
In the fall of 1942 he was restored to the second year of the institute. In 1944 he became a member of the CPSU (b) .
In 1946 he graduated with honors from the institute and received a diploma of a mining engineer for the development of ore and placer deposits.
For two years he worked in Krasnoturinsk as a deputy director for academic work in an industrial technical school established at the mines of the Northern Urals.
After graduating from the graduate school of his native institute, he defended his thesis “Determination of the angle of inclination of the pit side for steeply declining deposits”.
Since 1950 - worked as the head of a mining laboratory, deputy director for scientific work and chief engineer at the VNIItsvetmet, Ust-Kamenogorsk.
In 1965 he defended his doctoral dissertation "Improving the technique and technology for the development of lead-zinc deposits of the Ore Altai".
Since 1973 - Member of the Editorial Board of the Mining Journal .
In 1976-1982 - chief engineer of scientific and technical management at the USSR Ministry of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy .
In 1982-1987 - Director of the Institute VNIPItsvetmet.
Since 1987, retired.
Being the Chairman of the Council of Veterans of the 53rd Guards Rifle Division (formerly the 3rd MKSD, and later the 130th SD ) he was engaged in public activities, on his initiative significant work was carried out to perpetuate the memory of the division’s fighters.
He died on December 9, 2013.

Rewards
USSR State Prize in the field of technology (1983, as part of a group of 12 scientists) - for the creation of the scientific foundations for the rational extraction of reserves of solid minerals and the introduction of results in the mining industry.
For labor merits, he was awarded two Orders of the Red Banner of Labor and the Order of the Badge of Honor.
For participation in the Great Patriotic War he was awarded the Order of Glory of the III degree (1946, date of achievement - March 21, 1942), and was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the I degree (1985). In 2009, he was awarded the jubilee medal “ 65 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.” ". [one]
