Biography
1933-1937 - Senior Researcher at the All-Union Institute of Plant Production (VIR) in Leningrad .
1937-1952 - Senior Researcher at the Leningrad Botanical Institute (BIN) . During the Great Patriotic War and the siege of Leningrad, he remained in the besieged city and acted as director of BIN. By the spring of 1942, only one of the 24 greenhouses of the botanical garden had survived (30 shells and 5 aerial bombs exploded in the garden). The fragments of an exploding shell seriously injured the wife of V. S. Sokolov, Anastasia Fedorovna Beldenkova (1906-1957), a plant physiologist, and a candidate of biological sciences.
1952-1978 - head of the department of the introduction nursery of medicinal and industrial plants BIN them. V. L. Komarova , USSR Academy of Sciences .
He took part in a number of expeditions to Central Asia , the Caucasus and the Pamirs . He made botanical trips to the Valley of Roses in Kazanlak ( Bulgaria ), England , Czechoslovakia .
The author of numerous scientific publications. He was a member of the editorial board of the journal "Plant Resources", the international journal "Planta medica" and others.
