A traveling artist, Francesco Laurana, originally from Dalmatia , spread the ideals of the Renaissance during his travels in southern Italy and southern France. At the center of his artistic work is a group of female busts , about which almost nothing is known. Since the works are so one-on-one in a mysterious expression and embody the stylization of the ideal of beauty, it is difficult to connect them with real historical faces. Busts are now kept in various museums around the world.
The copy, which is stored in Vienna, is better preserved than others, since it basically preserved the original color with delicate red buds fashioned from wax in a gold hairnet. A woman used to have a real gem on her forehead.
There are suggestions that this female bust is a portrait of Eleanor or Isabella of Aragon, or probably Hippolyta Maria Sforza .
