Content
Early life
Born in New York City, lived in New York State until the age of ten, [2] and then moved with his family to San Jose, California. He earned a journalism degree from the University of San Jose and began as a sports writer for Wichita's recordings. Falls Times Record News and Turlock Diary. Demonstrating interest in wrestling and a journalistic approach at an early age. Meltzer has written several wrestling-related publications that have been the forerunners of WON since 1971. The most noteworthy of these was the report of the California fight reporter, California. in 1973 and 1974, he reported on events that had survived beyond the NWA territories beyond Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Wrestling Observer Newsletter
The informational Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON) began in 1980, when Meltzer began an annual survey among those with whom he corresponded regarding professional wrestling. According to Meltzer, at first he was just a fan. After some time, he began to maintain a list of trading on magnetic tape and periodically sent match results and news updates along with tape updates. Meltzer stated that he wanted his college friends to be “up to date” with his trade feeds, as well as business events, as major wrestling magazines served several younger demographic magazines. [one]
Star Rating System and Its Effect

Meltzer popularized the “star rating” system (developed by Jim Cornett and his childhood friend Norm M. Dooley), [3] [4] which rates matches on a scale of zero to five stars (sometimes to negative five stars in the case of very bad matches) similarly what is used by many film critics.
Meltzer also gave ratings that exceeded five stars. The highest he ever rated the match was seven stars (*******), given to Kazuchika Okada and Kenny Omega for the match at Dominion 6.9 at Osaka-jo Hall in June 2018. Also his other matches are above 5 stars:
