Barkalaya, Nino Ottovna

Nino Ottovna Barkalaya is a Russian pianist, organist, and musicologist. He is actively performing in Russia and abroad. He performs with solo programs and in an ensemble with famous musicians. She was awarded the title of Cavalier of the Order of Arts and Literature of France for the promotion of French contemporary music and contribution to cultural cooperation between Russia and France [1] .

Biography

In 1989 she graduated from the Music College at the Moscow Conservatory [2] . She graduated with honors from the Moscow Conservatory and graduate school in three specialties (piano class, professor M. Mezhlumova, organ class, professor N. Gureeva, musicology class, professor V. Kholopova). She defended her thesis “Aesthetics and Composition Technique of Nikolai Obukhov in the Context of Russian and French Modernism” [3] . Nino Barkalaya has a Ph.D. in aesthetics and musicology from the University of Paris 8. She takes part in organizing and conducting many all-Russian and international festivals: Olivier Messian and his school, At the Turn of the Century (Moscow), Moscow Autumn festival of contemporary music, festival “Spring in Russia” [4] , the music festival in Trier (Germany), the festival “Art-November” [5] , etc.

He teaches at the Moscow Conservatory [6] . He gives master classes and lectures in Russia, Georgia, and European universities. Author of many articles in the field of musicology.

Concert activity

The pianist's extensive performing repertoire includes both classical works and works by contemporary composers [7] . Barkalaya opened for specialists and the general public the work of the Russian-French composer Nikolai Obukhov . She performed all the compositions for the piano by Sofia Gubaidulina . Introduces listeners to rarely performed compositions of Russian avant-garde composers of the early 20th century N. Obukhov, I. Vyshnegradsky , A. Lurie , N. Mosolov . He explores the creative heritage of the composer V. Gaigerova [8] and includes her works in his repertoire. He performs the compositions of the latest music by contemporary authors: Guy Rebel (France), P. Boulez , A. Pärt , G. Kancheli , B. Vivancos , A. Steineker. He actively promotes the work of young composers from different countries.
