"The Boys of Summer" is a song recorded by American rock vocalist and drummer Don Henley , released October 26, 1984 on the Geffen label. Published as the lead single from the debut album Building the Perfect Beast . The authors and producers of the song became Don Henley himself and his co-authors. Grammy Award for the best male vocal rock performance in 1986 [1] , and the video clip received all the main prizes (including the Video of the Year) at the MTV Video Music Awards ceremony [2] [3] .

History
"The Boys of Summer" reached fifth place on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US and charted the Billboard Top Rock Tracks rock chart for five weeks. In the UK charts UK Singles Chart, the song was in 12th place. The re-release of the single in 1998 allowed him to rise again to number 12.
The song received positive reviews from music critics and online publications. On February 25, 1986, at the 28th Grammy Ceremony, Don Henley won the Best Male Vocal Rock Performance Award for this song, and was nominated for the Best Record of the Year [1] .
Rolling Stone magazine has included The Boys of Summer on its list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time (No. 416). The Pitchfork 500 included The Boys of Summer in Pitchfork Media's Guide to the Greatest Songs from Punk to Present [4] .
Music Video
Music video in black and white style put French director Jean-Baptiste Mondino . The seven-year-old boy was played by Josh Paul (the future bass guitarist from the rock band Daughtry ) [5] , and the girl Audie England . In 1985, at the MTV Video Music Awards ceremony, the music video of this song won such prestigious awards as Video of the Year , Best Direction , Best Art Direction , and Best Cinematography [2] . Award in the category of Best Direction director Jean-Baptiste Modino received from the hands of the former partner of the Eagles group Glenn Fry [6] .

DJ Sammy Version
In 2002, Spanish musician DJ Sammy (along with the vocals of the Dutch singer Loona ) made his cover version of “The Boys of Summer” for the album Heaven . The single was a success in the charts and reached number 2 in the UK [20] .

In 2003, the rock band The Ataris made their cover version of The Boys of Summer for their album So Long, Astoria . The single was a success on the charts (No. 2 on the Billboard Modern Rock Chart and No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100) [34] .
