Biography
Gustav Schoch was born on September 10, 1833 in Zurich [2] . From 1857 to 1860 he studied medicine at the University of Zurich .
Having received the necessary education, he was engaged in medical practice in his native city and at the same time taught natural sciences at the local cantonal school [3] .
In 1876, G. Shokh was appointed director of the Entomological Museum of the Polytechnic, in which he had lectured since 1879 as a private assistant professor [3] .
Gustav Schoch was an excellent connoisseur of the Swiss insect fauna; he collected a magnificent collection of beetles of the Cetonidae family, the study of which he was primarily engaged in; in addition, he took an active part in issues of fish farming and fishing [3] .
Schoch published a large number of scientific works and articles, among which the most famous are the following: “ Die microscopischen Thiere des Süsswasseraquariums ” ( Leipzig , 1868); " Die schweizerischen Orthopteren etc. "(Zurich, 1876); “ Analyt. Tabellen z. Bestimmen der schweizer. Libellen "(" Mitth. Schweiz. Ent. Ges. ", 1878); “ Practische Anleitung zum Bestimmen der Käfer Deutschlands und der Schweiz ” (Stuttgart, 1878); " Orthoptera Helvetiae " ("Mitth. Etc.", 1886); " System der Cetoniden u. spec. Beschreibung neuer Arten u. Varietäten ”(Mitth. Etc., 1894–98); " Genera und Species meiner Cetonidensammlung " (Zurich, 1895) [3] .
Gustav Schoch died on February 27, 1899 in the city of Zurich [4] .
