Biography
Born July 27, 1956 in the city of Kineshma, Ivanovo Region . He dreamed of becoming an artist since childhood. In 1975 he graduated from the Ivanovo Art College . After he entered the Leningrad Institute of Painting of Sculpture and Architecture. I.E. Repin at the Faculty of Easel Painting, which he graduated with honors in 1984.
After graduation, lives and works in Yaroslavl . In 1987 he became a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR , and in 1991 the Union of Artists of Russia , where he still remains today.
In 1994-1997 and 2005-2010 he taught at the Yaroslavl Art College , taught a course of painting, drawing and easel composition.
Since 1985 - a regular participant in regional, zonal, republican and all-union exhibitions, group exhibitions in Russia , Germany and France .
Sergey Sokolov is the author of the portrait gallery of honorary citizens of the city of Yaroslavl . [one]
He is also the author of interiors and monumental murals of public institutions: the Museum of the History of the City of Yaroslavl , the Chateau Restaurant ( Yaroslavl ), the Skazka Cafe ( Yaroslavl ), and the Firebird Cafe ( Yaroslavl ).
The artist’s easel works are in the Yaroslavl Art Museum [2] , the Museum of the History of the City of Yaroslavl , the Ivanovo Regional Art Museum , the International Confederation of the Union of Artists ( Moscow ), the Moscow Architectural Museum ( Moscow ), the Alexander Gallery ( Paris ), and private collections Russia , USA , France , Germany and other countries.
Icon Workshop
Since 1991 Sergey Sokolov has been engaged in icon painting . He is the head of the icon-painting workshop of them. Guria Nikitin , created with the blessing of the Archbishop of Kostroma and Galich Alexander (Mogilev) (2003), where masters of icon painting and mural painting, restorers and masters of other areas of church and applied art work.
Here, icons are created in the best traditions of the masters of the Armory , the Yaroslavl and Kostroma icons of the 17th century, the school of Moscow icon painting of the 15th - 16th centuries, as well as in the New Athos style of the late XIX - early XX centuries. and in an academic manner of writing.
The workshop produces icons for iconostases, temple icons, wedding icons, family name icons, dimensional icons for the birth of children, icon cases. Orders for portraits, restoration work, monumental paintings and interior decoration are also accepted.
Icons created in the workshop are located in the churches of Russia , Kazakhstan , Ukraine , and Belgium .
Today, under the leadership of Sergei Sokolov, more than 30 iconostases have been created in Russia and abroad, including the Assumption Cathedral ( Astana ), the Iversko-Seraphim Convent ( Almaty ), the Church of the Archangel Michael ( Belgium ), the Patriarchal Krutitsky Compound ( Moscow ), Paraskeva Pyatnitsa Temple ( Yaroslavl ), Nikitsky Monastery ( Pereslavl-Zalessky ), Epiphany-Anastasia Convent ( Kostroma ), etc., as well as icons for the first persons of the state.
The work of the icon-painting workshop is marked by high awards of the Russian Orthodox Church .
