Duodenal hookworm (crankhead) - Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator - Necator americanus - dangerous human parasites that cause hookworm disease . Geographical distributionDistributed in countries with a tropical and subtropical climate between 45 ° north and 30 ° south, where 50% of the local population is invasive, which is a quarter of the world's population, but some are more common in areas with hotter climates.
Foci of hookworm infections are identified in the areas of mines and mining. The main condition for the occurrence of such foci is high soil moisture and contamination with its feces.
Pathogenic actionThe introduction of larvae through the skin causes burning, itching, redness of the skin. At the time of migration, pulmonary disorders, mechanical damage to the walls of blood vessels, and minor hemorrhages in organs are observed. Mature individuals cause the formation of large ulcers (up to 2 cm) in the intestine, progressive anemia as a result of blood loss and intoxication. There are severe digestive disorders, general weakness, severe pain, sometimes a perversion of taste.
