History
Livestock has been one of the sectors of the economy of Azerbaijan since ancient times. In the days of the Azerbaijan SSR, there was a stagnation in the development of animal husbandry. The turning point occurred after Heydar Aliyev came to power. Breeds from Ukraine , Belarus , and the RSFSR were brought to Azerbaijan. All breeds were provided with the right amount of feed. The state took measures to transfer livestock production to an industrial basis. In 1972, milk yield from buffalo increased by 178 liters and reached 1,032 liters. The number of cattle reached 714.5 thousand, and sheep - 2725.1 thousand. The total forage base of livestock was strengthened by increasing the area of clover fields. In the 70s, the level of mechanization in livestock farms gradually increased. In 1975, in Salyan, an inter-collective farm cattle feeding association began to function. The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan and the Council of Ministers of the Republic adopted a resolution "On the construction of state and inter-farm livestock complexes and poultry farms in the republic in 1976-1980." Poultry farms were opened in Nakhchivan, Gabala , Shamakhi and Agdash .
Dairy complexes functioned on Absheron , in Khachmaz , Sheki , Beylagan . In Absheron, pig fattening complexes were also commissioned.
During 1969-1981, the total livestock production increased 2.1 times, the number of cattle increased by 18.5%.
Beginning in the 1990s, cattle production declined due to the fact that it was centrally managed. After the meetings of collective farms and state farms, it was decided to privatize livestock. Since 1995, the regulatory framework for privatization began to be created. Laws such as the Land Code and On Peasant (Farm) Farms, and On the Reform of State and Collective Farms were adopted. Reforms since 1996 have respected the principle of social justice. Departments of agriculture were created in the executive structures of cities and regions. In the country, societies of poultry farmers, livestock breeders, animal welfare, beekeepers, and others were created to solve the problems of entrepreneurs [2] .
