Novosibirsk Regional Gerontological Center

The Gerontology Center was opened in October 1994 as part of the Social Protection Department of the Novosibirsk Region, the main goal of the institution was to manage regional services created to help older people, train qualified workers, etc.

In the second half of the 1990s, the gerontological center increased markedly. A socio-cultural sector and an information analysis sector are being formed, legal and medical counseling departments are being organized, socio-medical rehabilitation and mercy departments, a communication club for phytotherapy are being created.

In 1995-1998, five scientific and practical conferences and eight interregional seminars were organized together with the regional department of social protection.

In 1998-2000, scientific and practical work was carried out on the topics “Creating a model of a gerontological center for non-stationary and semi-stationary institutions of social protection” and “Organization of the work of stationary institutions of a general type”, which were approved by the Ministry of Labor and Social Development of Russia.

In 2001, 18 workshops were held.

The center provides assistance to single elderly people, as well as studying existing experience working with people of this age group. In addition, the institution provides social and medical assistance to elderly citizens at home, provides care for older citizens who have contraindications for being in other social support organizations.

The Gerontological Center has published monographs “Problems of Modern Social Gerontology” and “Selected Chapters of Traditional Medicine”.
