Biography
Ivan Timofeevich Shepelsky was born on October 1, 1937 in the Ukrainian village of Negrebivka, Radomyshl district ( Zhytomyr region ). His father, Timofey Ivanovich, was a military conductor, then - the head of a rural orchestra. His eldest son Gregory played the clarinet, the middle son Nicholas played the trumpet.
As a child, Ivan participated in a family brass band, played the clarinet. Learned to play the accordion. At school he played in the evenings, actively participated in competitions, contests, shows. In 1951 he graduated from the rural seven-year school. He graduated from the Kiev Musical College named after R. M. Glier (teacher I. I. Zhuromsky ). [1] .
In 1960 he graduated from the Kiev Conservatory (class M. M. Gelisa , Department of Folk Instruments). Since September 1957, along with fellow students Anatoly Khizhnyak and Nikolai Khudyakov, he joined the creative team of a trio of bayan players.
Since 1960, performed as artists of the Khabarovsk Regional Philharmonic.
In 1966, they moved to Sverdlovsk. In 1966–1998, they acted as the “Ural Trio of Bayanists” (Khudyakov, Shepelsky, Khizhnyak), and worked on the tour schedule of Rosconcert, Soyuzconcert and State Concert. They mastered multi-timbral ready-elected button accordions. For a long creative career, they performed over 200 works by foreign, Russian and Soviet composers, about 100 accompaniment plays, recorded dozens of records, prepared many programs for radio and television broadcasts of central and regional significance. The trio's repertoire included organ, clavier and symphonic works of world classical music arranged for bayan, Russian folk songs, and music of the peoples of the world. The Ural composers A. Mucha, A. Byzov, N. Puzey, K. Myaskov, V. Vekker wrote especially for the trio. Many toured abroad (1967 - Laos, Cambodia, India; 1976 - Finland; 1977 - Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria; 1984 - Poland; 1987 - Sweden; October 1988 - performance on the 125th anniversary of the accordion in Italian Castelfidardo ).
He performed in the trio until 2008.
Awards and prizes
- The trio are the winners of the first and the winners of the second All-Russian Competition of Variety Artists (1961), the All-Russian Competition of Variety Artists (1962).
- Honored Artist of the RSFSR (02/10/1978).
- People's Artist of the RSFSR (02/07/1986).
- Winner of the prize of the Governor of the Sverdlovsk region (1997).
