Service
In service since 1829, since 1836, after graduating from the Naval Cadet Corps, he was promoted to midshipman with the appointment of chief officer in the Black Sea Fleet . He was in the annual voyages across the Black Sea on various ships, at one time he was at the disposal of the Russian mission at the Turkish court.
Since 1844, with the rank of lieutenant, he was transferred to the Baltic Fleet . He sailed to the Swedish and Finnish shores, often took part in the escort of ships from the shipyards of St. Petersburg to the port of Kronstadt. In 1851 he was promoted to lieutenant commander . He subsequently commanded the first small vessels, and in 1855 he was appointed commander of the frigate Amphitrid .
In 1856, he was appointed commander of the Novik corvette, with whom in 1857 he sailed from Kronstadt around the Cape of Good Hope to the Russian Far East . Off the coast of the Amur , F.G. Staal was engaged in scientific and research activities. In 1859, he transferred the duties of corvette commander to N.V. Kopytov and returned to the Baltic by dry route through Siberia.
In 1860, Fyodor Gedeonovich was appointed to the frigate " Ilya Muromets " in the squadron of the Mediterranean Sea, I. A. Shestakov . While in Genoa , he received news of his production as a captain of the 2nd rank and his appointment as commander of the training and artillery ship Emperor Nicholas I , as a result of which he returned to Kronstadt by dry route.
In 1864 he was appointed commander of the armored frigate Sevastopol . In 1867 he was promoted to captain of the 1st rank and the highest favor was declared to him. In 1869 he was promoted to rear admiral with the appointment of a member of the Artillery Division and chairman of the Naval Artillery Experiments Commission of the Marine Technical Committee (MTK) of the Russian Imperial Fleet . In 1881 he was promoted to vice admiral , and two years later he was appointed a member of the Admiralty Council of the Russian Empire , in which he was until his death.
He was awarded all orders up to the Order of St. Alexander Nevsky granted to him in 1886 and the Order of the White Eagle [2] .
