History

The belfry arch on the arrow of the Krestovsky Island was designed by Russian architect Igor Gunst in 2000 as a gift for the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg . Built in 2001-2002 and inaugurated on the day of the city on May 27. Later, for a short time, rare excursions were carried out into the arch-belfry [1] [2] . In autumn 2006, access to the arch-belfry was closed due to the demolition of the S. Kirov stadium , but in 2010 it was restored in connection with the liberation of the construction site. Since 2013, the belfry arch ceased to be within the embankment of the Neva Bay in connection with land reclamation for the supports of the WHSD flyover, and later - the expansion of the island towards the shallow.

For this object, security was established for some time, and the doorways in the supports were boarded up. In 2017, the security was removed, but access to the inside is closed.

Features

Carillon consists of 23 automatic (Dutch) and 18 manual (Russian) bells. 23 Dutch bells are suspended on a gilded circle-crown, in the construction of which 16 vertical arcs are mounted. The structure itself is supported on two supports, rounded to the top and lined with corrugated strips made in Denmark . Inside the poles there are three floors, a balcony and a narrow circular staircase. On each of the balconies from one to 5 bells (top floor) are placed floor by floor.
