Kohgiluye and Boyarahmed ( Pers. کهگیلویه و بویراحمد - Kohgiluyeh o Buyer-Ahmad ) is one of the 31 provinces ( stop ) of Iran . Located in the south-west of the country. The administrative center is the city of Yasuj , other major cities are Dogonbedan or Gachsaran (83 thousand), Dehdesht (52 thousand), Likak (13 thousand), Ceram (13 thousand), Lande (11 thousand), Basht (10 thousand) The province area is 15 504 km² [1] . The population for 2006 was 634,299 people [1] , the majority of Lura , Persians , and Kashkashians .

History
Earlier, Kohgiluye and Boyarakhmed were part of the province of Fars and (until June 23, 1963 ) the province of Khuzestan . The separation occurred as a result of the riots that occurred on June 13, 1963. The final formation of an independent province was completed in March 1974 .
The province has 132 registered sites of historical and cultural value.
Geography
The territory of the province is mainly occupied by the Zagros Mountains . On the ridge of Dena is the highest point (4409 meters). The mountains in the province of Kohgiluye and Boyarahmed are covered with oak forests. Natural sources, songbirds and fresh air attract a large number of nature lovers.

Economy
The main branches of the economy are the oil refining, food, textile, woodworking, construction materials production, trade, agriculture, and tourism. The National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company refinery is located in Yasuj .

Attractions
The city of Yasuj houses the ancient Pataveh bridge and the Pai-e Chol cemetery, Khosravi hill with the ruins of the Achaemenid era. Near Yasuja on the road to Fars is the Tang-e Meyran pass (“Gates of Persia”), where Alexander the Great defeated the Achaemenid troops.
Also around Yasuja are oak forests and waterfalls Tang-e Tamoradi. Near the town of Sisakht are the ruins of the Sassanid and Safavid eras, the Den Nature Reserve. In addition, the province is interesting ski resort Kakan, waterfall Camardugh and Shah Cave.
