Championship Structure

The 1929 Spanish Football Championship was organized by the Royal Spanish Football Federation .

The championship consisted of one group in which there were 10 teams. The teams played each other on the principle of a circular system . In total, each club had to play 18 games: 9 in their field and 9 in someone else's. The order of the games was determined by drawing lots.

The final place in the table was occupied in accordance with the number of points scored. For the victory, the team earned two points, for a draw - one, and not a single point in case of defeat. If two teams finished the championship with an equal number of points, the criterion of the best difference between the goals scored and the goals conceded in the matches between them should have been used. If the teams were equal according to this indicator, then in that case the decisive match should have passed on a neutral field.

If the number of teams that finished the championship with the same number of points was 3 or more, then the following criteria were used:

  • criterion for the best difference between goals and goals conceded in matches between themselves
  • criterion for the best difference between goals and goals conceded during the championship
  • matches on a neutral field (in case of equality of teams)

The team that won first place in the league became the champion. The team that finished last in the table challenged their right to save a place in the championship with the club that won first place in the Second Division . Between these clubs was a series of playoffs, consisting of two matches. The winner in the series got the opportunity to play in the Example next season.
