Nelsha [2] is a lake in the south of the Ivanovo region , located in the Yuzsky region in the Balakhna lowland , 17 kilometers southeast of Yuzhi at an altitude of 92.2 meters above sea level [3] . It refers to the system of dune lakes of the Balakhna Lowland [4] . The average depth of the lake is 1.13 m, the maximum is 3 m. The length of Nelsha is 1.2 km, the maximum width is 450 meters, the length of the coastline is 4.732 km [5] .

Two nameless streams flow into the northern part of the lake, the Osinovaya Griva stream [5] [6] (the tributary of the Istok ) flows [3] .
The banks of the Nelshi are low and marshy, the northern and southeastern ones are sandy. The bottom of the lake is composed of sand and sapropel , the thickness of which reaches 7 meters in the southern part of the lake [5] .
Content
Flora and landscapes
Nelsha is completely located in the forests [6] , from the tree species of the surroundings pine prevails, birch (hanging and white) and spruce are also present. The lower tier of vegetation in pine forests is represented by reed grass , heather, and lingonberries . Coastal vegetation consists of black alder , downy birch , ash willow and buckthorn brittle . Among the bushes there are Russian broom , German gorse and black-headed goose [5] .
Coastal swamps belong to the Sphagnum-Pushnic type on the northern shore, and to the Sphagnum-Pushish-sedge type on the east. Sphagnum-cranberry-myrtle, black-alder-grass and lowland grass swamps are present in fragments [5] .
The aquatic flora of the lake is poor, represented mainly by poppy yellow , Canadian elodea , frog vodokras , and small duckweed . Occasionally there is a snow-white water lily , a headboard pop-up and a multi-rooted ordinary [5] .
Rare species
Rare and protected vegetation in the vicinity of the lake is represented by a German gorse, black-vest, blackberry, common bearberry , uncovered lumbago , rock wilderness , timothy steppe, and other species totaling more than 30. Zeyler sparse two rowan grows [5] .
Fauna
Among the animals living in the lake and its environs, the common copperfish is noted, a species rare for the Ivanovo region [4] .
The ichthyofauna is represented by a loach , ruff , crucian carp , rudd , tench , burbot , perch , roach , pike , pit [7] .
Among the mammals in the lake live beaver , muskrat , desman [7] .
Protected Natural Area
In 1975, a specially protected natural area of the same name was created on the lake [4] .
Name etymology
Hydronym is supposedly associated with the Vladimir dialect word “nalye” - an underwater rocky stranded in a lake, a lowland place filled with water [7] .
Nelsh in Art
In 1990, on the lake Nelsha and its neighbors, Kschare and Tonkah was filming the film " St. John's Wort " [5] .
Tourism
It is a resting place, in the vicinity there is a tourist trail "Hypericum" [5] [8] , opened in 2016. The length of the route is 22 kilometers [9] .
