Biography
Alexander Yurievich was born on January 14, 1954 in the city of Batumi. He graduated from the Faculty of Biology of Belarusian State University in 1976. [1] He studied in absentia at the graduate school and in 1983 defended his Ph.D. From 1997 to 2000, A. Karataev headed the Department of General Ecology and Methods of Teaching Biology, Faculty of Biology, BSU, gave lecture courses: “General Ecology”, “Hydroecology”, “Limnology”, “Global Ecology”.
He currently works in the USA as director of the Great Lakes Research Center ( Great Lakes Research Center of America; USA, New York State , Buffalo State College). [3] [4] [5]
Scientific activity
A. Karataev is a recognized specialist in the study of biology , ecology , parasitology and the productivity of the bivalve mollusk Dreissena . Together with American scientists, he developed a general scheme of the reaction of aquatic ecosystems to the influence of zebra mussel. [6] The works of Yu. Karataev on the ecology of cooling ponds, in the field of protection, rational use and management of freshwater ecosystems and the radioecology of inland waters are widely known.
A. Karataev has published more than 130 scientific papers, including 3 scientific monographs. [7]
