Biography
Born February 29, 1984 in San Jose, California. He is the only child in the family. Mark was 2-3 years old when he started playing the piano. At 4 he sang in the Cleveland Choir.
After graduating from high school in a suburb of Cleveland, Mark moved to his uncle in Los Angeles to continue to study music. He worked at various jobs, gradually gaining all kinds of connections in Hollywood.
“I felt like 18-year-old Huntor Thompson (a famous writer and journalist). I just plunged into this subculture of the Hollywood Hills. In the early years of his stay in Los Angeles, Mark struggled with drug addiction:“ It was a gloomy time. My friends thought I was going to die. I was blinded by drugs. At the age of 19, he refused to use drugs.
Creativity
During his years in Los Angeles, he tried to assemble his group. He even played in a hardcore metal / punk band for a while. When he was about 25 years old he began a solo career. And first he performed in bars and clubs. Mark wrote the song “I Would Do Anything For You” when he worked solo. This song was included in the episode of the show “Paris Hilton Girlfriend” in November 2008. “Color On The Walls (Don't Stop)” (then known as “Kids”) was also included in one of the episodes. In music, Mark tried to mix different genres: “ I had hip-hop songs, electronica, classical piano songs ... it took me 6 years to put it all into one genre .” But Mark still wanted to be part of the group. Then he describes his work as follows: " There was only me and a laptop ... it was terrible and I knew that I needed a group ."
Foster’s last work, before the advent of FOSTER THE PEOPLE, was to write jingles (short songs that last no more than 20 seconds and sound in commercials) for the music company Mophonics. Mark's jingles sounded in the Muscle Milk ad for sports nutrition.
Foster the People
The story of the band Foster the People began when Mark met Mark Pontius, who was amazed at the variety of songs by Foster. In 2009, Mark Pontius leaves his band Malbec and joins Mark Foster. Also in the group, Mark invited his longtime friend Kabbi Fink, who lost his job during the crisis.
