Lev Nikolayevich Menshikov ( February 17, 1926 - October 29, 2005 ) - Soviet and Russian orientalist - Sinologist , translator, professor (1991), doctor of philological sciences (1976).

Biography

Born in Leningrad in the family of Nikolai Andreyevich Menshikov, a geologist, and Rekki Efimovna Nikhamovskaya-Menshikova, a teacher of Russian language and literature [1] .

In 1947 he entered the Oriental Department of Leningrad State University .

In 1952, after graduation, he was recommended to graduate school at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences .

In December 1955, he defended his dissertation ahead of schedule. In December of the same year he was accepted into the staff of the Leningrad branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences .

In 2000, he participated in the international scientific conference held in Dunhuang city and dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the opening of Dunhuang monuments.

Prizes and Awards

In 1965, he was awarded the Stanislav Julien Prize of the French Academy of Inscriptions and Fine Literature.

In 1991 - Prize to them. S.F. Oldenburg RAS.
