Background and Release
On June 12, 2018, in their official statement, SM Entertainment announced that Taeyeon's comeback would take place on June 18. [2] The release of the new album will mark Taeyeon’s return to the scene after a six-month hiatus from the release of This Christmas's Winter Is Coming Christmas album. [3] On June 14, a teaser for the video clip “Something New” was presented, which attracted attention due to its cinematography. [4] It also became known that the album will be a gift for Korean fans, and promotion on music shows will not be held due to Taeyeon’s employment at fan-fights in Japan .
Commercial Success
Something New debuted at number 4 on the Billboard World Albums Chart and at number three on the Gaon Albums Chart . [5] [6] As a single, “Something New” debuted at number 15 on the Gaon Digital Chart [7] , number 4 on the Gaon Download Chart [8] , number 36 on the Gaon Streaming Chart [9] , and number 15 on Korea K-Pop Hot 100 .
