Three processed stones and several tools found in Betton are considered evidence of a person's stay in this place during the Neolithic period (5000-2000 BC). In the Iron Age , a Gallic Reed tribe settled here, whose capital was Rennes . After the conquest of Armorica in 53 BC the Romans took care of the construction of roads on its territory; one of them went through Betton.

Around 470, Christian missionaries baptized the local population. One of the first monasteries in Brittany was founded in Betton; currently in the only surviving building of the former monastery is a private school for boys.
